Vital® Peptide 1.5 Cal is a ready-to-drink peptide-based liquid formula for patients with impaired gastro-intestinal function. It offers flexibility to meet nutritional needs both orally or as a tube feeding. For patients with: GI disease: pancreatitis (acute or chronic) or pancreatic insufficiency; cystic fibrosis; Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, or short bowel syndrome; HIV/AIDS-associated enteropathy; celiac disease; gastritis, duodenitis, enterocolitis; dumping syndrome; GI fistulas; GI intolerance symptoms: gas, bloating, diarrhea, and abdominal distention; Acute GI dysfunction: critical illness; trauma; burns; sepsis; posttransplant surgery; post-gastric surgery; Impaired GI function: abdominal and other surgeries; certain cancer treatments; generalized malabsorption; general intolerance to polymeric feedings; cerebral palsy. Preparation

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:

All liquid medical foods, regardless of type of administration system, require careful handling because they can support microbial growth. Follow these instructions for clean technique and proper setup to reduce the potential for microbial contamination. NOTE: Failure to follow the INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE increases the potential for microbial contamination and may reduce hangtime.

220-mL Bottle
- Use under medical supervision.
- Use by date on bottle.
- Store unopened at room temperature.
- Shake well. Once opened, reclose, refrigerate and use within 24 hours.
Oral Feeding:
- May be used for supplemental or sole source nutrition.
- Best served chilled.
Tube Feeding:
- Adjust flow rate and volume according to patient’s condition and tolerance.
- Feed at room temperature.
- Minimal tube size: pump feeding 8 Fr. Gravity feeding is not recommended.
- Additional fluid requirements should be met by giving water between or after feedings or when flushing the tube.
- Care should be taken to avoid contamination of this product during preparation and administration.
Ready to Hang Container

Oral Feeding:
- May be used for supplemental or sole source nutrition.
- Best served chilled.
- Once opened, reclose, refrigerate and use within 24 hours.
Enteral Feeding:
- Minimal tube size: pump feeding 8 Fr. Gravity feeding is not recommended.
- Administer product at room temperature.
- THOROUGHLY wash hands with soap and water before handling container or feeding set.
- Turn container upside down and SHAKE VIGOROUSLY, using a twisting motion, for at least 10 seconds.
- DO NOT touch any part of container or feeding set that comes in contact with the formula.
- Visually inspect for signs of leakage. DO NOT use if leakage is apparent.
- When initiating feeding, follow health care professional's instructions. Adjust flow rate and volume according to patient’s condition and tolerance.
- Additional fluid requirements should be met by giving water between or after feedings or when flushing the tube.
For use with Feeding Set with Safety Screw Cross-Spike Connector:
- Remove protective cover from READY-TO-HANG (RTH) cap.
- Remove protective cover from feeding set connector.
- Insert feeding set connector into port of RTH Safety Screw Cap and pierce foil.
- Turn feeding set connector collar clockwise until it is securely fastened.
- Close clamp on feeding set before inverting container.
- Invert container and suspend, using hanging ring on bottom of container.
PRECAUTIONS:
- Avoid prolonged exposure to light.
- Follow directions for use provided by manufacturer of feeding sets.
- Unless a shorter hang time is specified by the set manufacturer, hang product for up to 48 hours after initial connection when clean technique and only one new set are used. Otherwise hang for no more than 24 hours.
