What is HMB? (β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate)
HMB is an active metabolite of leucine that helps to support muscle protein synthesis and reduce muscle protein degradation.1
High-protein ONS with HMB have been associated with:2-6
- slowed or reversed muscle loss in aging, illness, or starvation;
- improvements in wound healing, physical function, and mortality.
Where is it Found?
HMB is found in small amounts in some foods but is very difficult to get from diet alone.1
